TV Show Marketing

Marketing Man has a great idea for a new television show:  CSI – Situation Comedies.  It would only be a one show series, however, as we all know what killed the sitcom – CSI Vegas, CSI New York, CSI Los Angeles, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Criminal Intent, Criminal Intent Really Disturbing, Law & Order, Law & Order Special Victims, Law & Order Cartoon Icons.  And it goes on and on and on and on.  No wonder there is so much murder in the world, it is our primary source of entertainment.

As much as we love going “Ewww” when a stomach is sliced open to reveal what someone had for dinner last night (CSI-Gonna Barf), this can get a little old.  I don’t know about you, but when Marketing Man comes home tired from a hard day of fighting bad marketing, he does not want to see murder and mayhem all night long.  Laverne and Shirley is more the ticket.  (Younger readers, Google it!)

The good news is that the situation comedy is making a comeback.  According to Mr. Mark Lacter from his LA Biz Observed blog, 15 sitcoms are on order for next year (vs. 2 the year before).  Maybe television marketers have finally decided with the great depression and all, we could us a laugh now and then?  And sitcoms tend to keep their audience in reruns, leading to big bucks in syndication, according to Mr. Lacter. Screen Digest reports CBS has made one BILLION dollars in syndication for “Two and a Half Men” alone!  And that dude is crazy.

Hollywood has a mind of its own, but it’s good to see someone is paying attention to what we consumers could use in our lives.  Now if we only had a sitcom about a SuperHero who fights bad marketing.  He flies home at night to his wife, Angelina Jolie, and………..
